3 Things We Can’t Wait for in Outlander Season 3

CongratsS3

Season Three of Outlander began filming today in Scotland.  First and foremost – a big congratulations to cast and crew as they begin this new season.  We can’t thank you enough for all your hard work!

As the new season gets under way, I thought it was a great time to ponder what three things I’m most looking forward to in the next season.  Keep in mind, I haven’t read the books – although I do try to pry tidbits out of people who have.  🙂

If you don’t want to be spoiled about what may or may not happen in season three, stop reading now.

Warnings out of the way – mark me, let’s have some fun with speculation!

#1 – Is Claire Going to Get REALLY Mad That Frank Kept This Secret From Her?

One of the many things that really struck me during the finale was that Frank had to know Jamie didn’t die at Culloden.  And he never told Claire.  When the Reverend figured it out – he certainly would’ve told Frank.  And Frank clearly sat on the information.  I’m certain he did so because he didn’t want Claire to go back to Craigh Na Dun, and back to Jamie.  And worse yet – not back there with Brianna.  But … how selfish.  She lost twenty years of her life with her soulmate because Frank kept this secret from her.  Granted, the man is dead and there’s not much she can do about it.  But talk about feeling robbed from your life.

I think after it had been safe to do so – she would’ve gone through the rocks to look for Jamie.  Had only she known he hadn’t died at Culloden.

#2 – Laoghaire, Laoghaire, Laoghaire

I have to be upfront about two things:

  • I never liked Laoghaire, from the very first time we saw her in season one when Jamie took the punishment for her.  Prior to knowing how her character would play out – there was just something shady about her.  So I’ve spent much of season one and two disliking her.  Even after she tried to redeem herself.
  • I did beg for information about what was to happen with Laoghaire/Jamie in future seasons of Outlander because I had a sneaky feeling where things were going.  After the last time we saw her and she said she hoped she could still gain Jamie’s love – the writing was somewhat on the wall.

I don’t want to give too much away – and I’m not sure how much of it comes in to play in Voyager / Season 3.  But the relationship between Laoghaire and Jamie is going to be one that will make it not fun for me to write episode reviews.  But I am interested to see how this plays out.  And I do think there’s a great sense of vulnerability that Nell Hudson brings to the character that makes it somewhat possible to like her.  She’s no Black Jack Randall, thank goodness.

#3 – The Claire / Jamie Reunion

Each season I’m always waiting for the Claire/Jamie reunion.  In season one of Outlander, it felt like it was never going to come!  In season two, their time apart was much more brief – but just as poignant.  They always come back to each other, eventually stronger and more in love.

This reunion will be one that is twenty years in the making.  So much time has passed – so much has changed.  They are different people now with very different lives.  How will this reunion play out?  I suspect it will be just as much of a tearjerker as it was when she went through the rocks.

BONUS – Murtagh

One of my favorite characters in Outlander is Murtagh.  He’s the steady calm in the eye of the storm.  But also one of the characters who is just such a great comic relief – even during tense moments.  His devotion to Jamie, Claire, and even Fergus – it’s a loyalty that is unmatched.

I was heartbroken to learn that in the book series, Murtagh died at Culloden.  We already lost Angus (another character I really loved) – and I just couldn’t deal with losing Murtagh.  So imagine my surprise when I started hearing rumors that this may be one instance where the series might deviate from the books.  And that Murtagh may live.  Could it be?

English actor Duncan Lacroix, who plays Murtagh, is somewhat keeping mum.  Although he did give an interview and mentioned he would be in Scotland for the coming months.  He was also slated to be at Scotcon in September but had to pull out.  Could it be because he’s filming Outlander?

So tell us, what are you most looking forward to in Outlander Season 3?  Give us the scoop in the comments!
